Amazing what the car dealer and manufacturing industry can do when pressed for by the public or government. I wonder why they did not think of this earlier?
While impressive, that is not all in the world of better milage. Another car in the making is the 300 MPG Aptera. Both cars are slated to hit the market in 2010.
The competition to appeal to our sticker shock on gas prices heats up. After hearing about $2.99 gas prices for 2-3 years from some dealers, Suzuki is advertizing that they are giving you FREE gas for the summer if you buy their cars. What next? Free gas, Free meals and Free holiday ticket with every car purchase???
They claim to be as safe as regular cars, if not safer. (see video below)
They have amazing gas mileage. (Its claimed 60MPG)
& they look cute and yes they do come as convertibles.
I say if you live in the city, or don’t have too far a commute go for the smart car. Beats getting a motorbike. You can find smart cars at smart car dealers here.
Would love to hear from actual buyers if they feel smart a few weeks after buying a smart car.
Wow.. the Toyota Prius is the right product at the right time. While just a few years ago the trend was bigger vehicles to show off one’s might and power the warming climate together with the rising oil prices make one “weird” looking car the market favorite. Now after having many waiting lists for Toyota Prius cars, they are being mass produced efficiently and have become the people’s favorite cars to drive. I say they have become the Beetle cars of this century.
Its a good thing thought, I am all for saving gas money and the environment at the same time.
My only beef with hybrid vehicles like the Toyota Prius is that the saving you get from better mileage take over 5-8 years to recoup because the cars are so much more expensive. My shout out to car dealers and car manufacturers is that if they really care about us, they should make hybrids more affordable ASAP.
Got to hand it to some car dealers, they are getting creative in reaching the masses. I found the below 2008 Honda Accord review really helpful, and hope you find it informative too. By the way, I really like the way Honda is shaping its new cars, it definately is raising the bar for “look” in its price range. Add to that Honda’s reliability… I think its a one two and three punch for 2008 Honda Accord buyers.
While most ideas here have been explored on my site, i found a few nuggets in here that will give you a few more hundred in savings. The article below covers the following eight money saving tips at car dealers.
1. Decide what type of vehicle fits your needs, lifestyle and budget.
2. Don’t rationalize an expense that is far beyond your budget.
3. Shop around on the Web. (Definately check out MissCarDealer network prices vs others)
4. Buy at the right time.
5. Try to avoid a down payment for a lease unless it lowers your monthly payments.
6. If you’re offered either cash back or a lower interest rate, choose the latter.
7. Be aggressive.
8. Don’t get snookered into snazzy, but superfluous, extras.
In today’s tough economy car buyers have become more prudent. Car dealers have catered by being more open about how their competition compares.
As today’s buyers do a lot more home work before talking to a dealer, car dealers give them less run around to close a sale.
As car buyers have become more sophisticated in their lifestyles, new car dealers now offer gourmet coffee instead of the usual house brand.
Even car dealers are opting to hire non typical car salesy people as internet buying has lowered the need for song and dance sales people. Read the excellent article here:
If you have the luxuary of time before you buy your next car, consider this new flash. Every little leverage you can get with car dealers, you will drop your ultimate car buying price by a few hundred dollars. Read my section on car buying for all the tips to get that awesome car price.
“It’s hard to sell a Mercury when it looks just like a Ford that’s priced at $4,000 less,” said Tom Libby, an auto industry analyst at J.D. Power & Associates.
(I got this quote from an article in LA Times:
http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-garage10-2008may10,0,5324378.story )
I think the quote speaks volumes on why this may be happening. Another indicator for me is that the new generation thinks nothing of this brand when it comes to buying new cars. Nothing “cool” about their new productions. Talk about survival of the fittest. I guess in a car dealer jungle out there, with today’s scarcity of customers, there is bound to be some automobile brand casualties.
Talk about getting creative. As gas for cars keeps inching up, car dealers are getting more creative in giving themselves an edge over their competition. Did you know that many car dealers are selling cars guaranteeing the price of gasoline? While quantities of gasoline prices are limited for a finite amount there is a car manufacturer (Chrysler Motors) who has pretty much taken an amazingly gutsy step of guaranteeing gasoline price at $2.99 for the life of your ownership of their car.
What will they think of next?
